Tags – SEO Techniques to Increase Traffic

Whether you have been writing blogs for a while or you’re just getting started, often reaching for high rankings proves to be quite the challenge.

Don’t worry, with a few simple tips and a bit of patience, you can get a head start on your competitors.

Keep in mind, Google’s algorithms are constantly changing, and so whilst the exact method for search rankings isn’t fully known, there are a few things you can do that contribute towards a better ranking position and ultimately increase the traffic to your website.

Let’s take a look at our top 5 SEO techniques.

1. Content, content and content!

First and foremost, content is king (or queen) – basically, it’s really important!

These days, writing great blog posts is becoming more and more important because Google will only rank short (less than 500 words) articles for so long.

Gone are the days where “me-too” articles – where your ideas from other blogs in the same industry were shared – was enough to keep you in the game.

Now, a compelling and well-researched blog post that provides useful information to your audience is what will keep visitors coming back for more.

1.1. Inspired by the Internet

At the end of the day, people will only come to your site if you’re saying something worth reading, so if you’re struggling with ideas on what to write – there’s plenty of inspiration on the internet.

For instance, try doing a broad search first like “dog collars”, what keywords do you see? Let’s say “best” props up, now search “best dog collars”, perhaps there’s now a sub-genre talking about the materials used for dog collars.

Simply repeat this process and you’ll quickly find a lot of niche sub genres that are a lot more specific than “dog collars” for you to write about.

2. Keywords

When thinking about SEO, the first thing that most likely comes to mind is keywords, and for good reason too because they’re relevant if you want to rank high in Google searches.

Essentially, keywords are the terms that users type into search engines and when you begin typing, Google begins to give you suggestions based on popular searches.

From an SEO perspective, you want all the keywords on your website to be aligned with what people are searching for your content to be visible to them.

As such, you will need to ensure you properly know your audience and see which keywords have a high glow of traffic.

To get started, there are many online tools available such as Semrush which allows you to find the low hanging fruits to grab as well as finding new keywords and keeping an eye on your competition.

3. Add Images

Imagine a pizza without cheese or a beach without the sea – it doesn’t quite work.

The same can be said about not adding images to your content; note these should be high quality though.

Including images in content has great benefits like bringing text to life and if done right, a great tool for attracting visitors.

For instance, some users will search for images on Google and if you have added it correctly, there’s a chance they can find your post this way.

From here, they’ll be linked to your website OR if they take your image that has your logo and use it elsewhere – it’s additional exposure for you, so a win/win overall!

With that said, when using images ensure you include alt tags (using your keyword where possible) and make sure the image itself is saved under an appropriate name with your keyword – not just “01.jpg” for example.

And, if photography isn’t your forte, don’t panic, there are plenty of free image sources available.

4. Include Keywords in Title Tags and Post’s URL

Of course, some users may not pay attention to the title as much as what they look for on the page but keywords in title tags are important for SEO purposes.

Therefore, try and put a keyword in your title tag – for WordPress users this is the SEO Title, to make your site relevant in searches.

At the same time, the URL for new posts should contain the main keywords in that article whilst keeping it short and sweet – making it more relevant and increasing your rankings.

5. Link to High Quality Sites

Some people shy away from using external links on sites, because who wants their readers to leave your page for someone else’s?

Well, whilst that may be the case, linking your content to reputable sites can actually help your blog show higher in the search rankings.

In other words, if there are other blogs that offer the same useful information or if you’ve mentioned them in your post – give credit where credit’s due and link their page within your blog.

Wrapping Up

Overall, these SEO blog techniques are essential for getting your pages to rank higher.

Don’t be fooled – it won’t happen overnight, but slowly following these pointers above will contribute to better results and eventually give you an edge over your competitors.
