Tags – Using Facebook as a Business
If you’ve not heard of Facebook, you have been living under a rock.
Facebook is the social networking site that took social media and networking to a whole new level.
Created by Mark Zuckerberg and his colleagues in 2004 for Harvard students, Facebook is now one of the largest tech companies alongside Amazon, Apple and Google, with over 307 million users in Europe alone.
Facebook is not just a personal, social site anymore.
As Facebook users have grown year on year, it is no surprise that businesses have gotten on board as there were over 50 million business pages in 2015. I’ll let you guess how many business accounts there are today.
But, like anything else in life, Facebook has its own issues.
Here are some general problems I’ve discovered after having a Facebook account for a week:
- Creepers: I was never really interested in the whole idea of social media. If you want to connect with me, then just send me a text. However, I recently made a Facebook account and within a week I had approximately 600 friend requests from strange, mostly Asian men. This can easily be avoided by making a private account. But, still, this is a concern.
- Catfish: Creating a Facebook account is like creating a new version of yourself – ‘the Perfect version’. The MTV popular show “Catfish” showcases the vulnerable side of people and how they want to look and live a grander lifestyle. Everyone on Facebook shows-off their lifestyle, ultimately creating an unhealthy one.
- The ultimate problem with all social media accounts is becoming trapped in a time warp thinking it’s 6pm, thinking that you’ve only been on the app for an hour. A couple of drains down the line, you realise that it’s 9pm and you’re hungry and need food.
Nevertheless don’t let this discourage you from having a business account.
The Business Side
With almost everything done online from our shopping, bank accounts and friends, there is no easier way of showcasing your products and services than social media.
Consumers buy products based on reviews and social media is the perfect way to engage with your customers and discover your flaws as well as gaining testimonials.
But, there are still hurdles to cross.
For instance, there’s a lot of competition online. So, you need to ensure that you stand out to peak an interest from users.
Here are a few suggestions on how to do it.
Tips to make eye catching content
- Create visual content whether you provide a product or a service. By following this strategy, Nutella has 31 million followers on FB. Simply, this is because they encourage followers to share new recipes involving their products as well as sharing and inventing new ideas on how to incorporate Nutella.
- Get customers/clients to write a recommendation and post it – Starbucks has over 35 million followers worldwide and this is because users are able to engage and share their experiences. Also, as their Facebook page has a map feature for your nearest Starbucks shop as well as other key details such as their opening times, this facilitates an extra bump in sales on a daily basis.
- Interact and engage with customers- Zappos has over 2 million followers and this is because they make the time to interact and engage with their consumers. For example, someone posted about not being able to find a store with a specific shoes. So, Zappos took the time to research the area and recommended their competitors in order to help a consumer. This just shows how far Zappos would go to help the public, leaving an everlasting impression on their customers.
FACEBOOK ADS
A common problem for start-ups and small businesses is that the same people are always liking and sharing your posts.
If this is the case then it’s time to try Facebook Ads.
Facebook ads vary in price depending on your market.
Through our research, we have found that it is important to not target a too broad range of users but to be specific. This way you are able to experiment with a variety of ads on a diverse set of users while also increasing your chances to make a sale.
